What does a typical session look like?
Sessions are 50 minutes in length; we will start with an extensive history intake so I can get to know you better; we will spend approximately 2 sessions doing a little psychoeducation on the fear centres of the brain and how they affect us physically and emotionally when we are activated. After that, we will use mostly talk therapy along with some mindfulness and grounding techniques and some activities that are CBT based and working with self-regulation, reparenting ourselves, boundaries..etc

Do you direct bill my insurance?
We do not direct bill; we will, however, provide you with a receipt for each session and on the receipt you will find the CRPO registration number, which is what your insurance provider will require to reimburse you. Please ensure your benefits cover a psychotherapist (not psychologist or social worker)

What is the difference between Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Counseling?
Counseling is usually short term (6-10 sessions) and is solution oriented. Psychodynamic psychotherapy is less solution-driven and more focused on exploring early childhood attachments, patterns, behaviors and defense mechanisms. We explore the symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, C-PTSD and any diagnosis received (Borderline Personality, Bipolar..etc) and though we provide tools for working with symptoms, we take the added step of exploring root causes.
